Woman Missing After Being Swept Away In Ib River At Kanhakonda; Search Enters 2nd Day

Bhubaneswar: A woman has gone missing after being swept away in the Ib River in Sundaragada district on Thursday. The mishap has been reported from Kanhakonda tourist spot, also known as the Grand Canyon Of Odisha, under Talsara police station limits.Search operations by ODRAF and the Fire Department entered the second day on Friday, but no trace of the missing woman has been found so far.The missing woman has been identified as Prajnashree Paramita Purohit Panda, a resident of the area near Women’s College in Sundargada town. She is known as a social worker.According to information, Prajnashree had gone to visit Balishankara Kanhakonda on Thursday afternoon along with her family members, including her brother Raj, sister Itishree Purohit and her husband. She slipped on the rocky riverbed and was swept away in the deep water, remaining untraced since then.The incident has left the entire Sundaragada town in shock. Although the Fire Brigade launched a search operation in the river immediately after the accident, no clue about her whereabouts has been obtained till now.Locals have alleged that similar accidents leading to loss of life occur almost every year at the picnic spot. Despite the administration declaring the area prohibited due to the danger, such incidents continue to take place.
