Bhubaneswar: In yet another instance highlighting the rising crime trend, a youth was reportedly shot dead just one kilometre from the Anugola police station.The deceased has been identified as Susanta Pradhan (37), alias Kalia, a resident of Bantala village in Anugola district.According to preliminary investigation, the firing was done from a licensed gun belonging to a retired army personnel. The incident took place at around 7 pm on Tuesday near Nimba Chhak in Bantala village under Anugola block.Susanta he had an altercation with a person from the same village, which turned violent. He was shot in the chest and collapsed on the spot. Bantala police rushed him to the Bantala Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead. However, the assailant managed to flee the spot after dropping the gun.The seized gun is said to belong to Prakash Sahu, a retired army jawan from Bantala village. Police have seized the weapon and started a probe from various angles.Police said preliminary investigation suggests the firing took place following a minor argument. Senior police officials have visited the spot to take stock of the situation.However, police have declined to disclose details about the accused, apprehending that it may hamper the investigation.
