Baripada: Continuous rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system has disrupted normal life in several parts of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, with roads submerged, a bridge washed away and several areas cut off from the rest of the district.In Morada block, traffic has come to a standstill on the Baripada-Jaleswar main road as water is flowing more than three feet above the Chitrada embankment. Similarly, four feet of water is flowing over the Mohanpur embankment on the Baramile-Baghada main road, disrupting vehicular movement.A bridge on the Kosta-Deuli main road near Jhaliaamara in Suliapada block was washed away following the heavy rainfall. The bridge was reportedly in a weak condition for a long time. Its collapse has disrupted communication for thousands of people from eight panchayats who depend on the route for daily travel.The situation has also worsened in Rasgovindpur block, where excess rainwater has entered four panchayats: Nakichua, Manida, Khuntapal and Saramula. Residents from the affected areas have been shifted to safer locations by the administration.Teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and the Fire Services department have reached the affected areas and are assisting with the response.The district Collector and the Sub-Collector also visited the affected locations to assess the situation.
