Kendrapada, August 17, 2026: TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata
Power and the Government of Odisha, today flagged off its Solar Rath from the Office of the District
Collector, Kendrapada, to promote awareness and adoption of rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar:
Muft Bijli Yojana.
The Solar Rath was flagged off by Sri Raghuram R. Iyer, IAS, Collector, Kendrapada, in the presence of
senior TPCODL officials. It will travel across Model Solar Villages and other villages in the district, educating
consumers on rooftop solar, government subsidies, eligibility and the installation process. The Solar Sanga
team will also engage with consumers and address their queries.
Earlier, a District Level Committee (DLC) meeting chaired by the Collector selected 10 villages for the
Model Solar Village Competition under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. The villages will compete to achieve
the highest number of rooftop solar installations within 90 days, with the winning village eligible for
Central Financial Assistance of ₹1 crore as a Renewable Energy Development Grant.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Raghuram R. Iyer, IAS, Collector, Kendrapada, said, “The Solar Rath will take
awareness about rooftop solar directly to the people and help more households benefit from the PM Surya
Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Such initiatives will promote renewable energy and sustainable development in the
district.”
Through initiatives such as ‘Mo Chhata, Mo Sanchaya’, Gram Sabhas and Solar Rath, TPCODL continues to
strengthen awareness and make clean, affordable solar energy more accessible to consumers.
