Dhenkanal : Availing the relief in freight extended by Railways for transportation of fly ash, GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) started transporting fly ash produced in the plant to various users by rail since 25th Oct’21. GKEL has been continuously striving to ensure more than 100% ash utilisation as per the EC conditions and this facility extended by Railways has been very helpful.
GKEL achieved a major milestone of becoming the first power plant for dispatching 100th rake of fly ash in East Coast Railways and third in the country to achieve this feat (after Lalitpur Power Generation Co. Ltd, (Bajaj Energy Limited) and Hindalco Industries Ltd, Renusagar, UP). GKEL achieved the landmark within a span of 15 months during the challenging pandemic period and moved more than 3.75 Lakhs MT of fly ash by rail.
The fly ash is moved to distances from 260kms to 300kms from the plant fully complying to conditions stipulated by the Railways to avoid any fugitive emissions and being utilized in road embankments as well as brick manufacturing. GKEL has developed a model of rail-cum-road, which has been very successfully implemented for long run ash utilization.
Congratulating the efforts of employees and associates in achieving this humongous task, Shri Ramesh R Pai, COO, GKEL said, “We could achieve this target due to efforts of our Employees, Associates and the support of East Coast Railway Officials.”
