SC directs centre to decide on Marcy petition of Balwant Singh Rojana within two months

New Delhi, 2/5: The Supreme Court has asked the Central Government to decide in two months the pardon petition of Balwant Singh Rajoana, convicted in the murder case of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. Balwant Singh Rajoana was sentenced to death by a special court in the year 2007. He is in jail for 26 years and his mercy petition is pending with the central government for 9 years. Earlier, the Supreme Court had given time to the central government to take a decision on Rajoana’s pardon till April 30.

 

Former Union Minister and Congress MP Manish Tewari has demanded the release of Balwant Singh Rajoana from jail. He said that now the time has come when the death sentence of Rajoana, convicted in the former CM’s murder case, should be commuted to life imprisonment. Earlier, Congress MP from Punjab Ravneet Singh Bittu had strongly protested the demand for the release of Rajoana.

 

 

Congress MP from Anandpur Sahib Manish Tewari said on Balwant Singh Rajoana on Wednesday that being a victim of terrorism, I understand the pain of my colleague Ravneet Bittu, but as a lawyer and MP of Punjab, I think that now we should move forward. should increase. Rajoana has already served 26 years in prison. He is facing the death penalty and is in jail since 2007, so the time has come to convert his death sentence to life imprisonment.
