Founder of the Chipko movement and a prominent environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna, passes away

Dehradun, 21/5 (Ao Bureau)The biggest news of this time is coming from Uttarakhand. Sunderlal Bahuguna, the founder of the Chipko movement and a prominent environmentalist has passed away. He breathed his last at AIIMS in Rishikesh. He was admitted to AIIMS on 8 May due to suffering from other diseases including corona. State Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has condoled his death. CM Rawat said that the efforts of Shri Bahuguna ji, who keep the issues of water, forest and land in the mountains as his priority, and in the princely states, will always be remembered.

Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat tweeted, ‘I have received very painful news of the demise of Padma Vibhushan Shri Sunderlal Bahuguna Ji, the great environmentalist of the world, known as Vrikshamitra, the leader of the Chipko movement. Hearing this news, the mind is very distressed. This is an irreparable loss not only for Uttarakhand, but for the entire country. He was awarded the Jamnalal Bajaj Award in 1986 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2009 for his significant contribution in the field of environmental protection. In the field of environmental protection, Mr. Sunderlal Bahuguna’s works will be written in golden letters in history.

Padma Vibhushan Sundarlal Bahuguna had also come under the grip of the growing Corona infection in Uttarakhand. Please tell that he was suffering from fever for the last one week after being admitted. His corona report came positive after being tested in a private lab in Dehradun itself.
