‘HERNIA MASTER CLASS’ ORGANISED AT IMS AND SUM HOSPITAL-2

Bhubaneswar, March 27: A workshop on latest techniques in hernia repair
was organised at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital-2 at
Phulanakhra, the second faculty of medicine of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to
be University (SOA), near here on Tuesday which was attended by surgeons and
post-graduate students.
Dubbed as ‘Hernia Master Class’, the workshop was conducted by Prof.
(Dr.) Neeraj Goyal, eminent Laser, Laparascopic and Robotic Surgeon at the Max
Superspcialty Hospital at New Delhi.
Prof. (Dr.) Goyal spoke about latest techniques in hernia repair with focus
on Ventralex ST Hernia Patch, an abdominal mesh, which he described as a
unique product.
It was designed for intra abdominal repair of small umbilical, ventral,
incisional, epigestric hernia and trocal closure, he said adding the mesh was
completely resorbable and gets dissolved in 12 to 18 months.
Prof.(Dr.) Manas Ranjan Sahu, Vice-Chancellor of Odisha University of
Health Sciences and an eminent surgeon, who attended the workshop as chief
guest, praised the organization of the workshop saying there was a need to learn
more about surgery. “If you are not updated, you get outdated,” he told the
trainees.
Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, also stressed on the
organization of such hands on workshops for skilling, reskilling and upskilling of
the medical professionals. SOA had already organised more than 550 workshops
and seminars and more than 90 international conferences, he said adding there
was need for collaboration to provide a fillip to research activity.
Prof. (Dr.) Prasenjit Mohanty, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SOA, Prof. (Dr.) Arakhita
Swain, Dean, IMS and SUM Hospital-2, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Lenka, Medical
Superintendent of the hospital, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammed Javed Akhter, Head of
Department of Surgery and Dr. Chinmay Ranjan Behera, Associate Professor,
Department of Surgery, also spoke.
