Odisha: Police personnel beaten while trying to nab Ganja mafia

Bhawanipatna: Police personnel were allegedly beaten up while attempting to apprehend a Ganja mafia in plain clothes recently in Odisha. As per reports, the villagers mistook them for thieves and attacked them. Two Kalahandi police personnel and a driver were assaulted by locals near Kurtamgarh Tollgate in Kandhamal district, who suspected them of being kidnappers. Upon receiving information, Tumudibandh police arrived at the scene and rescued the two police personnel and the driver. The Kalahandi police had gone to Dungeri village to arrest a youth involved in Ganja trafficking. However, the youth escaped from police custody and misled the locals, claiming that fake police were chasing him with guns. As the villagers chased the Kalahandi police, they fled from Dungeri village. Nevertheless, near Kurtamgarh tollgate, local residents stopped their vehicle and assaulted the police personnel and driver. Tumudibandh police intervened, rescuing them from the villagers.
