Jharsuguda, Odisha, September 3, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, in collaboration with the Directorate of Factories and Boilers, Government of Odisha,conducted a large-scale onsite mock drill within its mega aluminium plant in Jharsuguda.The initiative reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring complete workplace safety and a high level of emergency preparedness.
The exercise simulated a fire scenario in the fuel oil storage area of the unit’s captive power plant (CPP) and was designed to test and enhance the plant’s emergency response mechanisms for handling flammable liquids. The drill was observedby Swaroop Jena, Deputy Director of Factories & Boilers, Sambalpur Divisionand Archana Das,Assistant Director of Factories & Boilers, Jharsuguda Zone. Senior leaders from Vedanta Aluminiumwere also present at the event.
The mock drill saw active participation from Vedanta’s employees, including security personnel, the combat team, the fire andrescue team, the auxiliary team and safety teams, who jointly worked on containing the simulated fire by rapidly deploying firefighting equipment, securing the affected area, and providing immediate first-aid support.

Vedanta Aluminium has consistently focused on ensuring robust and world-class safety practices at its plant locations. In addition to regular mock drills undertaken with the Odisha Directorate of Factories and Boilers, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), Vedanta Jharsuguda has deployed several other initiatives. These include virtual reality training for truck and technical drivers on safe driving, Suraksha Sankalp and safety stand downs to foster behaviour-based safety practices, and creating an all-women firefighting squad, Agnivahini, at its operations.
