Sushmita Dev becomes the Rajya Sabha candidates for TMC

Kolkatta, 14/9: Trinamool Congress has nominated Sushmita Dev as the Rajya Sabha candidate. Sushmita Dev left Congress last month and joined Trinamool Congress. Announcing her nomination for Rajya Sabha, TMC’s Twitter handle said, “Mamata Banerjee’s vision of empowering women and ensuring their maximum participation in politics will help society achieve more.”

Dev has been made the candidate for a Rajya Sabha seat that fell vacant after the resignation of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Manas Ranjan Bhuyan from West Bengal. Bhuyan, a minister in the Bengal government, had resigned from the post of Rajya Sabha member after being elected MLA from Sabang seat in Paschim Medinipur district in the assembly elections held in March-April this year. After registering victory for the third time in a row, Bhuyan has been made a minister in the Mamta government. TMC’s victory in this seat is considered certain, although any such speculations can be made only after the announcement of the BJP candidate. Elections will be held on this seat on October 4 and the results will also be declared on the same day.
