ACF Soumya Ranjan Case: Bidya Bharati Moves Orissa High Court for Anticipatory Bail

Bhubaneswar: Bidya Bharati Panda, wife of deceased ACF Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, has moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail to avoid possible arrest in connection with her husband’s death case.As per reports, Bidya Bharati filed the anticipatory bail application in the Orissa High Court after her Special Leave Petition (SLP) was dismissed in the Supreme Court. Earlier, the Paralakhemundi SDJM court had rejected her petition filed under Section 205 of CrPC seeking exemption from personal appearance on June 23, 2023 and March 11, 2024.The High Court had refused to interfere with the SDJM court’s orders and had directed Bidya Bharati to appear before the SDJM court on or before October 1.Challenging the High Court’s order, she had filed an SLP in the Supreme Court.The Supreme Court dismissed her SLP on September 28, while observing that she could apply for anticipatory bail. The High Court has now permitted Bidya Bharati to appear before the SDJM court by October 30.
