New Delhi: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has challenged Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying he won’t contest the upcoming Delhi polls if the Centre guarantees housing for all slum-dwellers in court. Kejriwal says voting for the BJP would be suicidal for slum-dwellers as the party allegedly plans to make them homeless within two months to favor their wealthy allies.Kejriwal’s reaction comes on the heels of Amit Shah addressing a slum-dweller gathering, urging them to “liberate” Delhi from the AAP government. However, Kejriwal fires back that the BJP only recalls slum-dwellers during election time. He points out how BJP leaders recently spent one night in various slums, asking why they had not done so 10 years ago. Kejriwal terms this “jhuggi tourism” as nothing but a drama to get votes.AAP chief accused the BJP of favoring land over slum-dwellers. He refers to the Lieutenant Governor’s move to change the land use of the Shakur Basti slum area. He further alleged that the Railways had floated a tender for the demolition of the railway camp slum last September. Kejriwal warns slum-dwellers that if they vote for the BJP, they will be left homeless within two months. In reaction to this, Kejriwal has faced counter-attack by the Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena who stated that it is a complete lie. According to Saxena, DDA has neither changed the land use of the colony nor served any eviction or demolition notice. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva too questioned Kejriwal and asserted that for the last 10 years, nothing has been done by the AAP government for betterment of lives of slum dwellers. Sachdeva further accuses Kejriwal of provoking people instead of taking concrete actions.
