Armed Robbery Cracked Within 24 Hrs In Ganjam, 7 Arrested

Ganjam police have cracked an armed robbery case at a farmhouse in Gokulpalli village under Kabisuryanagar police limits within 24 hours of the incident, arresting seven accused and recovering the looted property, cash and weapons used in the crime.According to police, six armed miscreants entered the Icon Farm House of Rajanikant Mishra at around 8 pm on June 19. The accused allegedly threatened family members at gunpoint, tied them up and decamped with around 15 tolas of gold ornaments, Rs 12,000 in cash and two mobile phones.Following a complaint, Kabisuryanagar Police registered Case No. 407 under Section 310(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and launched an investigation.Considering the gravity of the crime, Ganjam Superintendent of Police constituted a special team comprising officers from Kabisuryanagar Police Station, Polasara Police Station, Balipadar Outpost and Aska Police Station. Scientific and fingerprint experts were also engaged to collect evidence from the crime scene.Acting on intelligence inputs, the police conducted a raid in a forest area near Kankanadei temple and apprehended the accused. Those arrested have been identified as Santosh Mahapatra, Manoranjana Gaud, Rudranarayan Sethi, Shubham Rout, Jitendra Khatei alias Hina, Dutikrishna Nayak and Rajeev Kumar Das.Police seized a country-made pistol along with three live rounds, the looted gold ornaments, cash, mobile phones and two motorcycles from their possession.Two other accused, identified as Hitesh Swain and Shweta Khatei, are absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest them, police said.All seven arrested accused have been produced before a court, and police have sought their remand for further interrogation.
