Former Nuapada District Labour Officer Sentenced To 3 Years Imprisonment In Bribery Case

Bhubaneswar: The Special Vigilance Judge, Bhawanipatna today convicted Sarat Kumar Panigrahi, former District Labour Officer (DLO) of Nuapada at Khariar Road and sentenced him to undergo imprisonment for three years while imposing a fine of Rs. 80,000.

Panigrahi, who has since retired, was found guilty in a bribery case registered by Odisha Vigilance. He was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000 from a trainer for registering 200 labourers. Koraput Vigilance registered a case under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has stated that it will approach the competent authority for the stoppage of pension of the convicted former officer.
