Gajapati, July 23: A major controversy has erupted after a large quantity of government-supplied medicines was allegedly found dumped in the open within the premises of the Mohana Community Health Centre in Odisha’s Gajapati district.The incident has raised serious concerns over the management of essential medicines, despite the government’s continued investment in providing free healthcare and medicines to economically disadvantaged patients.According to reports, the medicines were discovered near the hospital’s medicine warehouse. Preliminary observations indicate that many of the discarded medicines had not expired. While some carried expiry dates extending to August, others were reportedly valid until December, suggesting they were still fit for distribution.The discovery has sparked public anger, with residents questioning why medicines intended for patients were discarded instead of being used. Local sources also pointed out that many patients visiting the health centre often return without receiving prescribed medicines, making the alleged wastage even more concerning.When questioned, health workers residing near the warehouse reportedly said they were unaware of how or why the medicines had been dumped.
