Bhubaneswar: A high-speed Mercedes car caused panic in the capital city late at night after it hit a bike rider near Shastri Nagar Square in Kharavela Nagar in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha yesterday night.According to reports, the West Bengal-registered Mercedes car, WB 24AT7877, was coming from the Kalinga Stadium side around midnight. The car lost control and rammed into a Platina bike from behind.The impact was so severe that the car dragged both the bike and the rider for nearly 100 meters. The biker died on the spot. His identity has not yet been confirmed. Witnessing the horrific accident, local residents gathered at the spot and demanded justice.Police from Kharavela Nagar Police Station reached the spot on getting information and pacified the crowd. Locals had blocked one side of the road from 120 Battalion to Shastri Nagar Square, causing traffic disruption. After persuasion by police, the road was cleared.Police have seized the car and started an investigation into the incident.The accident has once again raised concerns over rash driving and road safety in the city.
