SUBARNAPUR, 7/5—- It has been reported that the Vigilance has arrested the Sarpanch of Nimna Gram Panchayat under Ulunda block of Subarnapur district.The Odisha Vigilance has arrested the Sarpanch for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from an SHG worker for signing the necessary agreement for fish farming in the Gram Panchayat tank and for disbursing subsidy amount from the District Fisheries Office in favor of the said SHG group. It is worth mentioning here that the SHG group has taken a lease of the Gram Panchayat tank for five years for the purpose of fish farming. Initially, the accused Sarpanch had demanded a bribe of Rs. 40,000 from the SHG worker for the above work. However, the said SHG worker expressed inability to pay the demanded bribe. After further discussion, the accused Sarpanch reduced the bribe amount to Rs. 20,000. Finding no other recourse, the worker of the SHG (complainant) approached the vigilance authorities. On receiving information, today a team of Odisha Vigilance arrested Smt.Pandey while she was taking bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant. All the bribe money worth Rs. 20,000 was recovered from the possession of the accused Smt.Pandey and seized. After the arrest, simultaneous investigation is underway at two places related to Smt . Pandey in view of the DA. In this regard, Sambalpur Vigilance P.S. Case No. 10 dated 04.06.2026 has been registered under Section 7 P.C. (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway against the accused Smt . Pandey, Sarpanch.
