Bhubaneswar: Odisha joined the nation in grand celebrations to mark the 80th Independence Day on Friday. The state-level function was held at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar, where Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hoisted the tricolour and addressed the State.In his address, the Chief Minister highlighted India’s glorious freedom struggle, the country’s progress under proactive national leadership, and the state government’s roadmap for a “Vikasit Odisha” or Developed Odisha.Paying rich tributes to martyrs and freedom fighters, CM Majhi recalled the sacrifices of Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Veer Surendra Sai, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das and Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das.He also remembered legendary tribal leaders of the Paika Rebellion including Buxi Jagabandhu and Jayee Rajguru. Emphasizing Odisha’s role in the national movement, he said the state’s rich legacy of resistance — from the Paika Rebellion of 1817 to various tribal uprisings — formed an integral backbone of India’s struggle for freedom.
