Rayagada, July 28, 2026: The Court of the Additional District & Sessions Judge, Rayagada, has convicted Babula Kulisika in a rape case and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) besides directing payment of ₹4 lakh compensation to the survivor.The judgment was delivered by Additional District & Sessions Judge Smt. Alpana Swain on July 25, 2026, in connection with Chandili PS Case No. 285/2024.According to the prosecution, the accused forcibly dragged an unmarried woman with a mental disability from a relative’s house, raped her and later attempted to kill her. The prosecution examined 17 witnesses during the trial.The case was investigated by I.O. Harekrushna Mundari of Chandili Police Station. The prosecution was conducted by Additional Public Prosecutor Rajat Ranjan Khatua, assisted by Satya Narayan Pradhan. The prosecution was monitored by Shri Ajit Kumar Patnaik, Deputy Director of Prosecution, Rayagada.The judgment is being viewed as a significant step towards ensuring timely justice for survivors of sexual violence and reinforcing public confidence in the criminal justice system.
