PM Modi launched Ujjwala 2.0

New Delhi, 10/8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched the second phase of Ujjwala Yojana by distributing LPG connections among Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister also interacted with the beneficiaries of this scheme through video conference on this occasion. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present during the event. During this, the PM interacted with Bundi Devi of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Bundi Devi told how PM Ujjwala Yojana has changed her life.

In an address after the dialogue, the PM said that the number of women and people of the country that the Ujjwala scheme has illuminated is unprecedented. This scheme was started in 2016 from Ballia in UP, from the land of Mangal Pandey, the pioneer of the freedom struggle. Today the second edition of Ujjwala is also starting from the Veerbhoomi of Mahoba in UP.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was started in the year 2016 and at that time the target of providing LPG connections to women members of five crore BPL families was set. In the year 2018, various categories of women including Dalit, Adivasi, Tea Garden, Most Backward Classes were included under the ambit of this scheme. In view of this, a new target was set to provide LPG connections to eight crore women. This target was achieved in 2019.
