Baripada: Following the directions of AICC and Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhakta Charan Das, the Mayurbhanj District Congress Committee (East) staged a protest and demonstration in front of the Mayurbhanj District Collector’s office.
The protest was organised against what the party described as the alleged arbitrary functioning of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the alleged disregard for his colleagues, as reported in the national media.
Hundreds of Congress workers marched in a procession and raised slogans demanding the resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
District Congress president Purnachandra Biswal alleged that the basic rights of citizens and democratic values had been undermined through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. He also strongly criticised the BJP government over the issue.
Senior district Congress leaders Jyoti Prakash Rath, Ramachandra Hansda, Kisan Cell president Deepak Das, Minaketan Behera, Chandan Kisku, Jiban Barik, Banamali Barik, Pradeep Mishra, Shantunu Pal, Bijay Singh, Bhawani Sahu, Ratan Mahant, Sanjib Panda, Pradeep Das, Uttam Behera, Sunil Murmu, Biram Murmu and Abhishek Yadav, along with block presidents from various blocks, participated in the demonstration.
Women Congress leaders, including Rashmita Mishra, Ranjita Joshi, Gouri Nayak, Sabita Soren, Itishree Mishra and Mamata Nayak, were also present, along with hundreds of Congress workers.
