Downpour to continue in Southern Odisha till August 15, warnings issued for low pressure rain

Bhubaneswar: The intensity of rain in Odisha is likely to increase from today. A low pressure area is likely to form over the Northwestern and adjoining central western Bay of Bengal tomorrow.As an impact of this, Southern Odisha is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. Indian Meteorological Department’s regional centre at Bhubaneswar predicted that the weather in coastal and central Odisha. The region is likely to experience thunderstorm and lightning. This is expected to continue till August 15.The low pressure induced rains will hit mostly in the southern parts. The districts of Koraput and Malkangiri have been issued an orange warning for heavy to heavy rainfall.On the other hand, yellow warnings have been issued to five districts for thunderstorm, lightning and heavy rainfall. These districts include Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati districts. A gusty windspeed of 30 to 40kmphr is expected to blow in these districts.The rainfall will lash out mostly in the above mentioned parts of Odisha for the coming four days. For these districts the MeT has issued a yellow warning. The rainfall is likely to reduce from August 16.Earlier the MeT had issued yellow warning to 14 districts for thunderstorm and lightning. Similarly, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall.As many as 21 districts have been given a yellow alert warning for heavy rainfall. These districts are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall. The windspeed is likely to remain between 30 to 40 kmph. The rainfall intensity will increase from August 12 noted the IMD in an earlier bulletin.
