Angul, January 23, 2025: Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) celebrated Flag Day with great enthusiasm and patriotism at its Angul plant, marking 21 years of a historic legal victory by Shri Naveen Jindal, the President of the Flag Foundation of India and 3rd time Member of Parliament, Kurukshetra Lok Sabha, for the right of every Indian Citizen to fly the national flag with dignity every day throughout the year.
The celebration was a tribute to the cherished right of each Indian citizen to display the National Flag freely with dignity and pride.
The day commemorates the landmark Supreme Court verdict of 23rd January 2004, after a decade-long legal battle fought by Shri Naveen Jindal in both the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. The judgment upheld flying the National Flag as a fundamental right of Indian citizens under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution. This ruling defined the Tiranga as a symbol of unity, pride, and allegiance to the nation.
This landmark Supreme Court ruling in 2004 granted every Indian the right to hoist the national flag with pride on all days of the year.
The Flag Foundation of India, established by Shri Naveen Jindal and Smt. Shallu Jindal, the Chairperson of the Jindal Foundation, plays a pivotal role in promoting the significance of the National Flag. Through initiatives such as organizing talks, publishing books, and hosting patriotic events like Tiranga Runs and monumental flag installations, the Foundation inspires countless Indians. So far, 163 monumental flags have been installed across India, including 8 in Odisha, as part of this mission.
At Angul, the celebrations were highlighted by a ceremonial hoisting of the Tiranga at the monumental 207-ft-high flagpole, led by Mr. Pankaj Malhan, Executive Director & Location Head, along with Mr. Damodar Mittal, Executive Director Projects, and department heads. Employees and school children were gathered to honor the spirit of the national flag and its legacy.
A 15-minute video, reflecting the journey of the Tiranga and its significance, was screened in conference halls of every department to inspire and educate employees. An online quiz added to the excitement, with the first three winners earning exciting goodies. Additionally, a mandatory online signature campaign engaged all employees, fostering collective pride.
On this occasion, Shri Naveen Jindal also inaugurated a special exhibition at Connaught Place in New Delhi, showcasing India’s largest photographic tribute to the Tiranga, curated by Vijay S. Jodha and recognized by the Limca Book of Records. This tribute celebrates the nation’s diversity and creativity, as we approach 75 years of our Constitution in 2025.
On this occasion, Shri Naveen Jindal urged every citizen to embrace the motto, “Har Ghar Tiranga – Har Din Tiranga”, and let the Tiranga inspire collective dedication to nation-building.
The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm and pride, as employees pledged to uphold the values represented by the Tiranga – a beacon of India’s unity in diversity.
