Odisha SIR: Ganjam records highest voter deletions; Over 2.07 lakh names removed

Bhubaneswar, July 6: The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha has led to the deletion of a significant number of voter records across districts. Ganjam reported the highest number of deletions, with 2,07,624 names removed from the electoral roll, according to official data.Nearly 20.14 lakh voters’ names have deleted in Odisha as per the draft electoral rolls published on Sunday, following a month-long door-to-door enumeration process as part of the SIR of the voters’ list in the State.Malkangiri recorded the highest deletion rate among all districts, with 10.25% of its electors removed during the SIR process.Ganjam was followed by Kataka with 1,55,164 number of deletions. Mayurbhanj recorded 1,11,267 deletions while Jajpur witnessed deletion of 1,05,014 voters.Balangir recorded 99,258 voter deletions followed by Baleshwar (93,649), Puri (85,162), Sundargada (84,692), Kalahandi (74,546), Badagada (74,405), Bhadrak (68,337), Jagatsinghpur (64,956), Khordha (66,669), Keonjhar (64,409), Korpaut (62,290), Kendrapada (60,240), Dhenkanal (58,554), Sambalpur (56,801), Nayagarh (56,705), Malkangiri (47, 355), Nabarangpur (45,757), Rayagada (45,493), Angul (44,882), Kandhamal (38,999), Gajapati (31,356), Jharsuguda (28,542), Boudh (13,944), Deogarh (11,004), Subarnapur (19,224), Bhubaneswar-(ER) (19,549) and Nuapada (16,829).Out of the 20.14 lakh deletions, 8.32 lakh (2.49%) were found deceased, 10.07 lakh (3.02%) absent or shifted, and 1.58 lakh (0.47%) enrolled at multiple places. Another 0.14 lakh names were removed for various other reasons.Genuine electors can still be added to the electoral rolls during the claims and objections period from July 5 to August 4. Names of electors found enrolled at multiple places will be retained at only one place. The final roll, after hearings and verifications, will be published on September 6.
