Supreme Court gives permission to sterlite plant for oxygen production

Tamil Nadu, 27/4 (AO Bureau);Sterlite Copper Plant in Tamil Nadu, which was closed due to pollution disputes, has been allowed by the Supreme Court to produce oxygen. The court has said that Sterlite can start the production of oxygen in the next 10 days. Also, the court has directed the plant to supply free oxygen to the country. According to the court order, an expert panel will oversee the work of oxygen production.

Due to Corona virus, there were reports of lack of oxygen in many hospitals across the country. The Supreme Court had already taken cognizance of this. Justice DY Chandrachud, who is hearing the case on Tuesday, said, ‘This is a national crisis. People are dying… We have to bring the local community in our favor. During this time, the court has advised to avoid politics. The court said “there will be no political discord.” We are going through a period of national crisis. We are here to save the lives of citizens.

The court said, ‘We will have to support the country as a court. This is a national disaster. In fact, the Tamil Nadu government had accused the central government of supporting Vedanta Ltd, the owner of the plant. At the same time, the Center denied these allegations. Apart from this, the Supreme Court has also said that the expert panel will decide the number of people working inside the plant.

 

The state government has also given permission
On Monday, the Tamil Nadu government allowed Vedanta Limited to reopen the Sterlite plant. However, this permission was 4 months. This decision was taken after a meeting of all political parties, where DMK chief MK Stalin said that Sterlite should give ‘Oxygen for free’ to Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, DMK also talked about monitoring the plant.
