Virat Kohli did not left captaincy , he was forced to do so: Shoaib Akhtar

New Delhi, 23/1: Virat Kohli recently left the captaincy of this format after losing the Test series against South Africa. Earlier, he had taken the decision to step down from the captaincy of the T20 team in September. Subsequently, the BCCI stripped him of the ODI captaincy just before he left for the South Africa tour. Rohit Sharma was given this responsibility in his place. Behind this, the board argued that the selectors want only one captain in white ball cricket. Hence this decision was taken.

Since then, a dispute has arisen between the BCCI and Virat Kohli regarding the captaincy. Now former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has also given a big statement on this controversy. He has said that Kohli did not give up the captaincy, he was released.

Shoaib Akhtar, playing for Asia Lions in the Legends Cricket League in Muscat, told reporters, “Virat Kohli himself has not given up the captaincy. They have been forced to do so. Everyone knows this. Time is not going well for them at the moment. But he is a mentally strong player. Hardly anyone would doubt his ability. He is a great cricketer. For them too, all this suddenly happening is nothing less than a shock.
