BJP has upperhand in President Election

UP, 11/3 The BJP’s victory in four of the five state assembly elections has put the party in a strong position for the presidential election to be held later this year. Political analysts say the BJP’s big win in Uttar Pradesh has given Prime Minister Narendra Modi the ease to decide on President Ram Nath Kovind’s successor, who will complete his term on July 24, 2022.

If the Uttar Pradesh election results had gone in favor of the Samajwadi Party, the BJP would have had to rely on the support of parties like Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). These parties control a large part of the vote. The electoral college for the Presidential election includes elected members of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, elected members of state legislatures, the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
