This step of Bhagwant Mann government seems to be overshadowing Himachal Pradesh’s announcement of providing 125 units of electricity free of cost. Prior to this, Punjab had been given the country’s most expensive electricity and faulty power purchase agreements have been a major issue. In such a situation, fulfilling the promise made to the people after 1 month of assuming power can also help ‘AAP’ in the neighboring state of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh. According to a report in The Indian Express, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has announced to provide 125 units of electricity free on the state’s foundation day on April 15, while on June 29 last year, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal asked 73.80 lakh electricity consumers in Punjab. Promised that if his party comes to power, he will be provided 300 units of free electricity under a scheme similar to Delhi. Let us inform that the then Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was facing tough challenges in the Punjab Congress at that time, his failure to provide cheap electricity to the people of the state and also due to the termination of the PPA also led to his loss.
