Australia wins Under-19 World Cup

Africa, 11/2: Australia lifted their fourth title at the Under-19 World Cup level as they defeated India in the final of the ICC U-19 World Cup final 2024 by 79 runs at Willowmore Park in Benoni South Africa on Sunday, February 11.

Mahli Beardman and Raf MacMillan were the pick of the bowlers for the Australian side as they defended their total of 253 brilliantly. Speedster Bradman and spinner MacMillan picked three wickets each while Callum Vidler had two. Charlie Anderson and Tom Straker got a wicket each as well as the Indian team was bowled out for 174 in 43.5 overs.

For India, the chase never got going as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Opening batter Adarsh Singh (47), Lower order batter Murugan Abhishek (42), Musheer Khan (22) and Naman Tiwari (14*) were the only four batters to enter the double figures for the Indian team.

Earlier, thanks to Harjas Singh’s 55 and impactful runs from skipper Hugh Weibgen (48), Oliver Peake (46*) and Sam Dixon (38), Australia managed to post 253/7 in their quota of 50 overs.

For India to win, they must chase down a record 254, the highest-ever successful run chase in the final of a U-19 World Cup, to claim their sixth trophy. Raj Limbani was the pick of the bowlers for the boys in blue as he finished with figures of 3/38 in his 10 overs. Apart from him, Naman Tiwari picked two wickets.
