Her husband, with NGO help, rescued herIn a shocking incident, a married woman was allegedly trafficked to Maharashtra where she was held captive and sexually abused for 14 days. The victim from Nabarangpur’s Jharigaon area had to endure physical and mental abuse over a period of 14 days as she was forced to ‘sleep’ with several men.The victim alleged that she was kidnapped and trafficked to Maharashtra with the intention of being sold. She finally managed to call her husband and inform him about her whereabouts who then rescued her with the help of a team of NGO members.According to sources, the woman was first kidnapped by the accused identified as Basudev Kalar, also hailing from the victim’s area. He then first took her to Raipur in Chhattisgarh before trafficking her to Nagpur in Maharashtra where he held her captive in a house and allegedly forced her into prostitution. The accused brutally raped her during the captivity and forced the woman to sleep with other men in the area. However, she managed to escape from his captivity and call her husband.Her husband, having previously reported her missing to the Umerkote police, has now lodged a formal complaint of kidnapping, trafficking, and sexual assault. As of now, there has been no official response from the police over these allegations.A local team from ‘Matru Ashram’ in Nabarangpur was instrumental in the rescue of the victim. The case has prompted a public uproar, with calls for authorities to pursue the suspects vigorously and bolster efforts against human trafficking.“We have seen or heard of a young girl being trafficked, but shockingly a married woman had to go through unbearable trauma as she was trafficked from Nabarangpur to Maharashtra where she was locked inside a room and sexually abused for 14 days,” informed social activist Kadambini Tripathy.“A well-organised racket is behind such atrocious activities. So, I request the police administration to immediately arrest the accused behind the trafficking and bust the racket. We will hit the streets if the accused is not arrested immediately,”
