Rayagada, 22/5: In a major crackdown on alleged financial irregularities in co-operative institutions, the Odisha Vigilance has arrested Tarini Prasad Tripathy, Managing Director of K. Singhpur Large Area Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society (LAMPCS) in Rayagada district, on charges of embezzling nearly ₹75 lakh from the society.
According to Vigilance officials, a detailed documentary verification revealed that the alleged fraud was committed between 2024 and 2026. The accused allegedly manipulated official records and financial documents to siphon off society funds over a prolonged period.
The investigation further found that the misappropriated amount mainly consisted of savings and deposits belonging to primary members of the co-operative society, raising serious concerns among local stakeholders who relied on the institution for financial security.
Based on the findings, Odisha Vigilance registered Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 8 dated 21.05.2026 under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018 and BNS, 2023 against the accused official.
The accused was arrested on Wednesday and forwarded to the court. Vigilance officials said further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain whether more persons were involved and to trace the diverted funds.
