Surat, 19/1 (AO Bureau): In a shocking and tragic development, 15 sleeping laborers were crushed under a truck in Gujarat. The incident took place this morning. All the victims were from Banswada in Rajasthan.
According to the police the accident took place near Kosamba village, around 60 km from Surat. A dumper truck ran over the sleeping laborers on the Kim-Mandvi road killing 12 on the spot.
Some of the injured laborers were taken to a nearby hospital, but three of the eight laborers died during the treatment, the police added.
Apparently, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle after it hit sugarcane hanging out of the tractor-trolley coming from the opposite direction. The driver has been detained.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and Tweeted, “The loss of lives due to a truck accident in Surat is tragic. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover at the earliest.”
