West Bengal CM Mamata moves to Kolkata HC over Nandigram election

Kolkata, 18/6(Ao Bureau): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has filed an election petition in the Calcutta High Court against Shubhendu Adhikari and the matter has been listed for hearing before a single bench on Friday. According to the cause list released by the High Court on the website on Thursday, the matter is to be taken up as ‘mentioning’ through video conference before the court of Justice Kaushik Chand.

 

The Election Commission had declared Adhikari the winner and Trinamool Congress President Banerjee as the runner-up from Nandigram constituency. Banerjee had said after the announcement of the results that the EVMs were tampered with and the Election Commission official turned down the demand for recounting of votes and said that she would approach the court on the issue. BJP MLA Adhikari is currently the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly
