Before the series against India, there is chaos in Sri Lankan cricket, Angelo Mathews will retire

Colombo, 7/7:The long-running dispute between the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and its cricketers over the contract took a new turn when senior player Angelo Mathews hinted at retiring. This development has happened before the limited overs series against India (India vs Sri Lanka) starting on July 13. Among the current players, the senior-most Mathews and Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne have been kept out of the national contract. Mathews has written to the Sri Lankan cricket administration that he is contemplating retirement and can announce his retirement in the next few days.

The source said that Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to award contracts on a per tour basis. There will be no annual agreements as the immediate need is to sign players for the series against India. The players have been given a deadline till July 8. Players who previously refused to sign it have also signed now. On the basis of performance, 24 top players have been given contracts in four categories. Six players have got A category contracts, whose annual salary will be between 70,000 and one lakh dollars. The Sri Lankan team went on a tour of England without signing a national contract.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has said that 29 out of 30 cricket players have signed new contracts. These players will be selected in the series against India.

India-Sri Lanka Series Schedule
The first match of the ODI series will be played on July 13. The second ODI will be held on July 16, while the third match will be played on July 18. The T20 series between India and Sri Lanka will start from July 21. The second T20 match will be played on 23 July and the third T20 match on 25 July. All 6 matches of the tour will be played at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
