Punjab, 22/7 (AO Bureau):In Punjab Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu vs Captain Amarinder Singh seems to be getting brakes. After Sidhu was made the President of Punjab Congress, he is going to be crowned on Friday (July 23). Sources say that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will also attend Navjot Singh Sidhu’s coronation program.
Highly placed sources in the party said the development took place after the intervention of the party high command. Sources have revealed that Punjab affairs in-charge Harish Rawat will accompany the CM to Congress Bhawan where the ceremony is going to take place. A tea party has been organized before Sidhu is handed over the reins of the party. In this tea party, CM Amarinder Singh will join with all the MLAs.
Meanwhile, CM Amarinder Singh has called all Congress MLAs, MPs and senior state officials for tea at 10 am tomorrow. After that, everyone will go from there to the new Congress chief’s office-taking program. Punjab CM’s media advisor gave this information.
Navjot Singh Sidhu to replace Sunil Jakhar
Sidhu will replace the current state Congress president Sunil Jakhar. There is a tussle going on between Sidhu and Amarinder Singh for some time now. The Amritsar (East) MLA had recently hit out at the Chief Minister over sacrilege cases. The chief minister was also against the appointment of Sidhu as the state Congress president. After Sidhu was made the state president, the chief minister had said he would not meet him until Sidhu apologized for his “derogatory” tweet against him.
Amarinder Singh opposed the appointment of Sidhu
Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday appointed Sidhu as the new president of the party’s Punjab unit, despite strong opposition from Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Gandhi also appointed four working presidents, Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Singh Daini, Pawan Goyal, Kuljit Singh Nagra, to assist Sidhu in the next assembly elections.
