New Delhi, 8/8: Now soon the Aadhar card can be used for the registration of new voters. For this, the Central Government has sent a proposal to the Unique Identification of India (UIDAI) for its approval. The Law Ministry says that fast delivery of many other services can also be possible through Aadhaar card verification.
The government says that e-EPIC i.e. downloading of Electronic Electors Photo Identity Card or Voter Slip may soon be brought under the Aadhaar rules. These rules were notified by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on August 5 last year. It said that these rules are in the interest of good governance for Aadhaar verification, to prevent wastage of public funds, to make people’s lives easier and to have better access to services.
An entity wishing to use Aadhaar for such tasks has to send a proposal to the central government, which forwards it to the UIDAI. The Law Ministry’s letter to the UIDAI was sent at the behest of the Election Commission and the proposed Aadhaar registration would be made available voluntarily,
In August 2019, the Commission had written to the Law Secretary proposing amendments to the RP Act and the Aadhaar Act to empower them to collect and use Aadhaar data for the purpose of improving voters’ lists.
