WORLD SOIL DAY TREE PLANTATION AT JSWBPSL,

Sambalpu r:JSW Bhushan Power & Steel Limited, located at Thelkoloi Village of District Sambalpur, Odisha celebrates World Soil Day (WSD) on 5th December by taking plantation drive in and around its steel plant complex and executes mass plantation by its employees at various locations. World Soil Day (WSD) is held annually on 5 December as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources. An international day to celebrate Soil was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002.JSW Steel is known as the corporate which is sensitive towards environment and local communities and always committed for sustainable development. For JSW BPSL, steel is the business but environment conservation is passion and ever since they have taken over Sambalpur based Bhushan Power & Steel Ltd, organization has taken multiple actions to ensure compliances of various environmental issues and then better all the specified norms.JSW BPSL has taken lead in soil conservation in many ways. Wherever construction work is done efforts are made to reclaim all top soil and store a place to utilize wherever greenery is created or tree plantation is done. Similarly on natural slopes or slopes of mounds or even at slopes of ash mounds such species of plants and shrubs and grasses are planted which help in preventing soil erosion. We are also considering to provide vegetation through coir matting over slopes so that erosion is prevented and slopes stability is ensured and a good vegetation is provided for biological reclamation of disturbed areas.Under plantation drive on 5th December about 5,100 saplings have been planted of variety of native trees like Lagerstroemia flos reginae, Cassia siamea, Bauhinia blakeana, Anthocephalus cadamba, Dalbergia sissoo, Azadirachta indica, Terminalia catappa, Psidium guajava, syzygium cumini, Bixa orellana, Pongamia pinnataat various locations within the plant like power plant area, Raw material Handling area, Cold rolling mill area and also out side the plant area like ash disposal site to provide vegetative coverage  to ash disposal area as part of biological reclamation of ash disposal sites.Shri Anil Singh, Whole time Director & Occupier demonstrated exemplary leadership towards creating a clean and green workplace within complex and under his leadership JSW BPSL is marching towards eco-friendly steel manufacturing. While enthusiastically planting tree sapling of his choice that is Neem tree, Mr Anil Singh informed us that JSW BPSL is committed for environment and we are continually working on improving housekeeping, minimizing pollution, greening the complex so that this plant is one of the best environmentally performing organization in the StateIt was seen that employees of various departments were planting trees in the complex at various locations. All the senior executives were present during function and participated in tree plantation drive. Mr Singh also informed this kind of tree plantation drive will be taken on regular basis and all employees will be involved in tree plantation so that gradually we cover up all the vacant areas in plant with suitable trees which will not only increase our green coverage but also improve our aesthetic and beauty of the plant.

This kind of commitment as demonstrated by JSWBPSL certainly going to enrich ecological bio-diversity of the area. JSWBPSL assured that such kind of programs in and around plant will keep happening on regular basis.
