Rakesh Tikait’s strong stance changed the momentum of protest

New Delhi, 29/1:Hundreds of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) members stayed on the Delhi-Meerut Express Way on Friday despite the Ghaziabad administration’s final warning to vacate the protest site at the UP gate. The number of people gathered here increased overnight. Here the members of BKU, led by Rakesh Tikait, have been performing since 28 November.

A large number of farmers from Meerut, Baghpat, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, and Bulandshahr districts of western Uttar Pradesh reached UP Gate early Friday to join the movement on the call of BKU, while the number of security forces was reduced here at night. A face-to-face situation is being created at the UP Gate in Ghazipur. On Thursday evening, there was repeated lighting at the protest venue.

More farmers are coming here from western Uttar Pradesh

Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey and Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani reached the protest venue at midnight and took stock of the situation there. Hundreds of security personnel have been stationed here since Thursday. Following the official instructions, several security personnel including PAC and IAF personnel left the protest venue at midnight. Tikait along with his supporters stayed at the Delhi-Meerut Express Way. This place has been closed on both sides and normal traffic has been disrupted here.
