No extra attempts for UPSC Civil Service aspirants : Supreme Court

New Delhi, 24/2(AO Bureau): The Supreme Court has not given relief to the candidates who have crossed the age limit in the case of an extra attempt of UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2021. The court has refused to give additional opportunities to such candidates. This verdict of the apex court is a major setback for more than 2000 candidates. Due to the corona of such candidates, the final attempt was completed in the year 2020. The petitioners wanted the age limit to be removed as a one-time measure, but the government disagreed.

The Supreme Court had asked the central government to consider giving a chance to the candidates who have been denied age in the UPSC examination. But the Center had agreed to give an additional chance to the UPSC candidates but also said that those who had exhausted all their opportunities in the 2020 examination, only those candidates who are within the age limit can be given additional opportunity only.

What else did the court say?
The Supreme Court said that the state of the epidemic was extraordinary. Some of these candidates were serving in essential services. There are some real cases also. In this case, the petitioners are asking for a one-time exemption for every category. The Center should consider it, because this time the circumstances are extraordinary. The court does not want to order the government in this policy matter. The court had asked the central government to tell about it on Tuesday and the matter was heard again today.
