Chandigarh, 1/7 (Ao Bureau)Ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab, the power struggle is going on in the state’s Congress unit. Meanwhile, there is news that party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had allegedly persuaded Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to meet Navjot Singh Sidhu. News agency ANI, quoting top sources, claimed that a final decision on the meeting between Sidhu and Rahul Gandhi was not taken until Priyanka took the initiative and convinced the former Congress president to meet Sidhu. Sidhu on Wednesday met the former Congress president in the national capital amid tussle in the party’s Punjab unit ahead of next year’s state assembly elections.
According to sources, the meeting between Sidhu and Rahul Gandhi, which lasted for more than 45 minutes, is being seen as a “conciliation meeting” in the Punjab Congress. Earlier in the day, Sidhu met Priyanka at her residence. She then went to his residence to meet Rahul Gandhi and party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile, Sidhu waited at Priyanka’s residence till her return.
